Look
Bird site notification signage
- Observe if the site has bird site notification signage or any nests located on the tower or within site compound.
- Monitor the site for any signs of bird activity.
- Check for your Bird Site Work Advisory notice in your American Tower issued Notice to Proceed (NTP). You should have a copy of your NTP anytime you are removing or adding equipment to an American Tower site. If you are maintaining or troubleshooting existing equipment, please log in to our site access application to request access.
Communicate
- It is essential that the information included in your Bird Site Work Advisory is communicated to all individuals that will be completing work at that site.
Consult
- If work cannot be completed due to bird activity at the site, you should consult with biologists to determine the steps for staying in compliance with the Migratory Bird Treaty Act while completing your work at the site.
- If a nest will need to be removed in order to complete your work, you must consult with the state wildlife agency and regional U.S. Fish and Wildlife service office to determine if a permit is needed.
Notify
- If you notice there is bird nest signage present at the site, but no nest can be found after careful observation of the site, you must notify American Tower through the Network Operations Center (877-518-6937) or bird.watch@americantower.com
- If you notice a nest at an American Tower site, but do not see bird signage posted at the site, you must contact us at 877-518-6937 or bird.watch@americantower.com
- If nests will be removed from a site, you must provide copies of any applicable permits prior to the removal and notify bird.watch@americantower.com once the nest has been removed by forwarding before and after photos of the removal.
